This morning I was invited back into the ABC Radio studio. Oh yes people, I’m an Indie author and I’m actually receiving media exposure – who’d think that was possible huh? But clearly it is, if you have balls (rather surprised to say I do) and you really, really push yourself. It takes bottle to rock up, after all, no one is holding your hand or arranging media events. Doing it solo – that’s me!

This time I didn’t feel quite as nervous, I actually felt giddy with excitement! That was a huge surprise. I think it is important to see the big picture - I am just an ordinary woman, I’ve written and then published my debut book, Women Behaving Badly. And to top it all off, I’m creating and then accepting all amazing opportunities that come my way. Anything can happen!
*Creating being the important word. You can’t write a book and then expect the world to be interested. You need to create interest and you need to create your own luck.
You have to push against the fear. Somehow! I feel the fear rising inside my body and I say to myself, ‘Alana, just breathe, this is amazing, look how far you’ve come. On your own with no agent, no professional help. Your leading your own path and surely any success is a wonderful achievement and reassurance to all indie authors. Keep going, keep facing the fear head on. So breathe, just breathe.’
So there you go, I am just an ordinary woman who has wrote her first book. I’m pushing fear to the side and creating my own opportunities. Pretty neat. Don’t stop me now! I’ll leave you with Freddy…
